Let’s talk about your Ideal Client
When I first started my business I had no idea what an ideal client was. Now that I know who my ideal client is, it seems like the direction for my business is more clear. So let’s break it down. (Don’t forget to Pin this to reference later!)
What is an ideal client?
This is your perfect customer. This is someone who needs and wants exactly what you and your business offers.
Why is it important to know who your ideal client is?
Knowing and understanding your ideal client will help you know what they NEED and WANT as well as how to TALK and SELL to them.
How do you determine your Ideal Client?
There are a few ways:
- You can think of an existing customer that you have loved working with
- Or you can just dream up the perfect client
Then answer these questions:
- What are their struggles and pain points?
- What is keeping them up at night?
- What are their goals, hopes and dreams?
- What is most important to them?
Knowing these things makes it easier to create products that will actually meet your idea clients needs or solve a problem for them.
Here's my ideal client so that you can see an example.
Tayler is 32. Married to her best friend and has 3 little ones (4, 2, 1 month). She is experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression and is seeking help to improve her maternal mental health through a therapist and positive thinking. She works full-time as a designer, but wants to transition to working as a freelancer so she can be home with her babies more (even though she’s not always in love with being a mom.) Her hobbies include: baking, lettering and being outside and she is always trying to make more time for them. She needs encouragement and support as a mom. She feels exhausted, worried and that her efforts are never enough. Sometimes she feels alone and like no one can relate to her or her situation. Even though she feels all those emotions, those who know her would say how loving, kind and happy she is. She loves her family and loves God.
I know it seems like knowing who your ideal client is may not be an important part of your business, but it is. It will help you know who you are serving, who you are talking to and who you are selling to.
Let me know in the comments if you know who your ideal client is.
