The Basics of Flourishing

Once you’re feeling comfortable with connecting letters and lettering words and phrases, it’s time to start thinking about flourishing.

In this video I’ll walk you through this and give you a few tips specific to lettering names for your holiday gift tags!

Flourishing is adding decorative strokes to your letters. The best places I’ve found to add a bit of flourishing is the beginning of words or the capital letter, the last letter of a word, ascending and descending letters as well as the crossbar of the lowercase t.

When you’re flourishing you’ll want to think about the North, South, East, West concept. If you add something to the North side of your word/composition, you’ll want to add it on the south. If you add something on the east side, you’ll want to add it to the west. This will help you create balance in your flourishing.
